Dates set for 2007-08 LPGA T&CP National Championship

PINEHURST, N.C. – The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Teaching and Club Professionals (T&CP) National Championship is set to return to the historic and golf-laden Village of Pinehurst, N.C., for the next two years.

The LPGA T&CP National Championship is the premier tournament for LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals and will be held Aug. 13-15, 2007 and, Aug. 4-6, 2008 on Pinehurst Golf Course No. 8.

The 54-hole tournament consists of stroke-play competition and is one of two major championships for LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals. The LPGA T&CP National Championship features Championship Division players and Senior Division players and is the largest championship for female teaching professionals in the world.

The tournament offers a total purse of $102,000, while the Championship Division pays out $90,000 to participants, including $13,000 to the winner. In addition, the winner of the Championship Division also earns a coveted spot in the 2007 McDonald's LPGA Championship Presented by Coca-Cola, one of the LPGA's four major championships. Both division winners are guaranteed a spot in the 2008 LPGA T&CP National Championship.

When the tournament began in 1983 it was held every other year. Since 1993, the tournament has been held annually. Eight different states have hosted the national event, which features 120 LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals in the Championship Division and 24 LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals in the Senior Division, for members over the age of 50.

Last year, Karen Davies, of Carefree, Ariz., won the championship division title by defeating Pinehurst local Charlaine Hirst, in a one-hole sudden-death playoff, while Judy Furst, of Palm Desert, Calif., won her first Senior Division title by one stroke over 2002 champion M.J. Smith, of Waldorf, Md.
